Connecticut Traditional Tudor Style Kitchen

2014
Darien, Connecticut

There’s just something about classic and traditional design that appeals to us. It has an elegant and timeless appeal. It also evokes a sense of warmth with its rich and dark colors. Designed and built by Wood & Co., we wanted to capture that same elegance and warmth in this Tudor-style home in Darien, Connecticut.

We overhauled the interior of this traditional home. We used custom hand-hewn beams to conceal the existing dropped girders. Custom rift white oak inset cabinets line the walls of this kitchen. The choice of a dark stained wood against the beige floor and countertops create a pop of contrasting colors that delight the eyes. A hand distressed 10-foot long ebony island is the centerpiece of this kitchen. Its darker color is repeated in the blackened and distressed stainless steel brackets above the cabinets and 48” WOLF range.

Because of the existing variations on the floor and ceiling levels, each and every one of these cabinets and their doors were fabricated to a slightly different dimension. This ensured consistent reveals at the crown mouldings and base mouldings. These were fabricated to replicate mouldings found throughout the home, and made to match the stained white oak cabinets. This kept the details consistent with the time period of the property.

A copper farm sink complements the leaded glass upper cabinets which frame and emphasize the home’s beautiful arched window. All these elements come together to bring out the character of this classic Tudor style kitchen.

A traditional home such as this comes with a lot of personality and historical value. Restoration work such as this requires great care and an eye for details. Through our expertise, high-quality craftsmanship, and continued aspiration for excellence, we are able to restore and rehabilitate your space to match exacting period details. We can enhance the vintage elegance of your home and preserve its history for future generations.
